Debit

Debit cards come from the bank and are linked to your checking account so that you can access your funds without having to use cash or write a check.
A debit card will have either a Visa or a MasterCard logo on the front of it. Both forms of debit cards are accepted everywhere. When you get your debit card in the mail you will have to sign the back of it. Once that is done you will have to activate it by calling the number on the back of the card. You bank or other financial institution will also send you a PIN (Personal Identification Number). You will need to memorize your PIN and not tell anyone what it is.
When you make a purchase at a store you will swipe your debit card and enter in your PIN number. Once this is done the store will take the funds directly out of your bank account. You can also use your debit card as a credit card which means all you will have to do is sign for the purchase. Sometimes the funds will be taken directly out of your account right then, or it may take your financial institution a few days to process the request.
Now that checks are becoming more and more scarce, debit cards are becoming more popular. You can pay your bills online with your computer just by entering in your debit card number, the date it expires, and the security code that is located on the back of the card. You can also make online purchases this way rather than using a credit card.
Checks take a long time to write and can become too time consuming, many people have switched to using debit cards as they are accepted everywhere including physical retail locations as well as online stores. debit cards can be used in the place of a credit card because they work in almost the same way. If a purchase requires a valid credit card, you can just give them your debit card and that will be acceptable.
Prepaid debit cards
There are prepaid debit cards that can be used; you can get them from your bank or at a store. You will have to pay the bank or store where you got the card the amount of money you want to be on the card. You will only then be able to spend the amount that you placed on the card. Once you have spent it all the card will not go through anymore. This is helpful for people that do not want to accrue non-sufficient funds fees.
There is no fee for having a debit card; it is just like using a check only you don't have to fill anything out when you use it. The funds will come directly out of your debit account so it is important to save your receipts so that you can deduct the amount from your records.
